How the model surfaces Technology ideas

What to watch in Technology right now

In Technology the group usually splits along three lines. Software and cloud companies carry recurring subscription and usage-based revenue, so renewals, seat growth and cloud workloads matter more than any single quarter’s headline. Semiconductor and component makers earn per unit shipped, which ties them to the chip cycle, data-center build-outs and device demand — the more cyclical end of the group. Hardware and device names sit somewhere between, tracking consumer and enterprise upgrade cycles.

Information technology is also the largest slice of the S&P 500, close to a third of its market value, so a shift in these drivers reaches well past the sector itself. It is worth remembering that “best” is not one definition: valuation screens, one-year return rankings and growth filters routinely produce different lists, and those lists change over time.
